Turkey Bowhunting: Helpful Tactics to Hunt That Turkey

Hardcore bowhunters are always looking for a hunt that is going to please and challenge them. One of the best games to hunt for this type of experience is the turkey. However, it isn't easy, especially with a bow and arrow. Here are a few tips that will improve your odds while you're out to get those wise gobblers:

Lighter Is Better

You need to be able to obtain the ideal shot angle when it comes to hunting turkeys. Otherwise, your hunt won't be successful. You will likely be at point-blank range. All of this means one thing: you may need to hold your bow at full draw for a minute or so in order to get the perfect shot. For that reason, you want a lighter bow. It's going to be easier to hold 10 pounds rater than 50 pounds. Your heavy duty bow should be kept locked away when you're turkey bowhunting.

Stay Sharp

For a successful turkey  kill, you need the right broadhead. Full Draw Archery offers a couple of different broadheads that are perfect: Spitfire Gobbler and Turkey Tearror. Both of these broadheads are razor sharp so that slice right through the turkey on contact, which is exactly what you want.

Hide and Seek

With turkeys, it's basically a game of hide and seek. Turkeys have 10 times the vision that you do as a human, so it is crucial that you are well hidden. It's up to you if you set up a blind or not, but if you do, you want to be on top of the turkeys without them being able to spot you. Choose a place where the sun won't shine and you'll have plenty of straight clearance for shooting. Whether you're in a blind or out of a blind, you need to be in dark clothing – either black or dark camo, but never fluorescent.

If you aren't an avid turkey bowhunter, then you need to take the time to practice before you head out to the site of the game. Practice always makes perfect and turkeys are some very bright little creatures, which means you need to be on top of your game and 10 steps ahead of those birds.
