Camping Checklist: The Basic Essentials That You Need

Before you go camping, you need to make sure that you have the essentials that you need to ensure your camping experience is a hit. Full Draw Archery in Huntsville, AL, has a wide variety of camping gear for everyone, from backpackers to large family outings. Here’s a basic checklist of what you need:

Checklist for Tent and Accessories

  • Tent – Make sure it is large enough for all of the people that need to sleep inside with a little extra room for luggage.
  • Spare Pegs – There is nothing worse than not having enough pegs or bent pegs to hold your tent down.
  • Mallet – It may come in handy getting those pegs securely in the ground.
  • Duct Tape – Just in case you get a hole in your tent.

Checklist for Sleeping Items

  • Sleeping Bag – Make sure it is rated for the temperature where you will be camping.
  • Sleeping Mat – For extra insulation and comfort, an airbed or sleeping mat should be considered.
  • Pillows – No one wants their head on the ground!

Checklist for Campsite and Kitchen Accessories

  • Portable Toilet – This is particularly helpful if you have young children.
  • Cord or String – You never know what you may need to bind together. It can also serve as a clothes drying line.
  • Stove with Propane – This is crucial in case you don’t want to cook over an open campfire.
  • Pots and Pans – You will obviously need these to cook in.
  • Tableware – Don’t forget forks, spoons, etc. or you’ll be eating with your fingers!

Additional Items to Make Sure You Have on Hand

  • Matches or Lighter
  • Bottle Opener
  • Can Opener
  • Insect Repellent
  • First Aid Kit
  • Pocket Knife
  • Batteries
  • Anti-bacterial Wash

This is just a basic guide to the camping gear that you need to have with you when you go camping. Depending on how seasoned of a camper you are and where you are camping at, you may need fewer items or possibly additional items. Go over your items two or three times before leaving to make sure that you have everything that you need.
